Preferred Devices for Circadian Risk

Circadian Risk does not make any commission from suggesting or sales of the below items. We are simply self-proclaimed tech fanatics who enjoy using new devices and accessories that are out there, especially when it optimizes this new way of conducting assessments.

While Circadian Risk takes pride in being “device agnostic,” we want to be clear that we perform most of our product development and testing with the Apple iPad. You will be able to use Circadian Risk from any device with a modern web browser, but we cannot guarantee there won’t be small hiccups that are ran into while using these different devices.

We receive numerous inquiries about which device should Circadian Risk be used with. This article will outline our recommendations. Below are our preferred devices, and some optional considerations/add-ons that can help with comfort while walking around with a device during an assessment:

Devices We Suggest

  1. The first device that we recommend using is the iPad 9th Generation (2021), 10.2 inch

    1. The latest device available from Apple with the lowest price point

    2. Is a great size for walking around with out in the field

  2. The second device we recommend using is the iPad Mini

    1. The device is a bit smaller, meaning you’ll be sacrificing some screen real estate, but…

      1. It is very lightweight and portable

      2. You will have way more processing power (A15 Chip)

      3. And a 12 MP camera, vs. the above iPad 9th generation, meaning “nicer” photos to document deficiencies with!

Devices We DON’T Suggest

  1. iPad Pro

    1. The iPad Pro is a phenomenal tablet. It is just not that portable for conducting assessments in the field.

Additional Add-Ons We Suggest

Since the iPad is typically used while walking around a site to document deficiencies, you can’t just simply throw the iPad in your pocket and pull it out as needed. At Circadian Risk, we like to use the following add-on if we are performing a risk assessment in the field:

  • iPad holder with stand and strap (will work with the 10.2 inch iPad, but NOT the iPad Mini)

    • Benefits:

      • It has a hand strap, it will make it much easier to carry around in one hand, and make notes on the iPad with your other hand

      • It is also equipped with a kickstand, you can place the device down and rotate it to your favorite orientation while working in the field, or even at your desk

      • It comes with a shoulder strap, so you can put the iPad on your person, and then drop it to the side of your body as you walk through the site, and pick it up again very quickly when needing to make some notes.
